Catalogues Raisonnés
MAX PECHSTEIN.
The Catalogue Raisonné of the Oil Paintings.
The catalogue raisonné of the oil paintings by Aya Soika was published in two volumes by Hirmer Verlag. The professor of art history has been studying German Expressionism in its cultural-historical context for many years.
The documentation of the paintings includes comprehensive exhibition, literature and provenance details. A biographical overview outlines the artist’s life. Texts on the places where Pechstein stayed, such as Nidden, Moritzburg, Leba, Italy and the Palau Islands, together with contributions on collectors and public collections, provide valuable additions to the catalogue. Around a quarter of his works — the figure is probably far higher — are considered lost. These paintings, too, are documented for the first time in the catalogue raisonné wherever possible.
